Why Have Extremely White Teeth Become A Status Symbol?

December 16th, 2009

Teeth were never meant to be ‘extremely white’.
Like liposuction, botox, boob enlargements, and the rest
of the chemistry set, the industry relies on vanity.

Because white teeth represent money, self-confidence, and hygene. A person who has nice teeth often has:
    A. the money to afford things such as braces, whitening, etc
    B. confidence and will smile because they know they look good
    and
    C. hygene. This person is clean enough and cares enough to brush their teeth twice a day.

It’s not so much that they’re a symbol of status, it’s just another beauty thing that looks good.
    And it’s obvious.
Because just like anything else, teeth are something that gets dirty and needs to be kept cleaned. So when they are pure white they look good because they’re clean.

    One word… CELEBRITY
Besides, anything that costs a person a chunk of change is a status symbol.
“Look, I bought a 1,000 dollar paper weight! I’m so posh.”

If you have white teeth, you supposedly have enough money to go to the dentist regularly. Wouldn’t you think?

Because dental care is expensive; thus only those high up on the social/economical ladder can afford to have sparkly teeth.

I wasn’t aware that they had. But better that than extremely plastic chests and extremely fake hair, nails, eyes, and skin.
