yes that is a great idea. When I had my braces off it was finally taken notice that I was allergic to the glue that they used to put them on with. So i have two scars on my front teeth that are whiter then the rest of my teeth. The orthodontist told me that there is nothing I can do so I have had to just suffer with it, I have tried to use the whitening kit, but it just makes the little scars whiter! Good luck

yes use whitening strips;
but whatever you do,
DO NOT GET HER TEETH BLEACHED!
even if the dentist offers.
it will look better; but her teeth will get loose
and they will be week and very unhealthy
in a year or two they will ache and might even fall out :0

It is probably just from the glue. I suggest after getting her teeth cleaned and if they are still a bit discolored then get a good teeth whitener that you can do at home.
They did a research on the best most effective and safe tooth whitener system and it is:http://www.celebritysexyteeth.com/
I was actually looking for something for my husband because those others seem to be so pricey and other don't work. This product is reasonable and the guy that did the testing tested even the expensive dentist procedures down to the cheapest store brands.
he said it didn't leave his teeth sensative and didn't make the enamel wear down.
Good luck. I would love to get my teeth whitened, but they say it doesn't work on crowns or dental work and I have had both done.

I am a dental hygienist. Not sure what "erinn :)" is referring to or what her background in dentistry is- it sounds very elementary. I'm not aware of bleaching causing teeth to get loose and fall out, but maybe she knows something I don't know.
First, you need to voice your concerns to your dentist when she goes next week.
Whitening, whether via whitening strips or bleach trays, is not recommended for those under 18. This is due to "passive eruption". Though all her permanent teeth have erupted, they will still gradually advance from the gingiva (passive eruption). If you start bleaching too soon, when the teeth do fully erupt, then they will have a band where they once bleached before eruption was complete. It can also cause more sensitivity in children.
Also, her dentist will let you both know if she is a candidate for bleaching in the first place. If there are any tooth-colored restorations (fillings), they will not change color, but rather the natural tooth surface around it will, making the filling a more obvious different shade of white/yellow.
It's possible too that the unevenness is leftover ortho cement that picks up stain. She may also have mottling or scarring from poor homecare (plaque control) around her brackets- and these could be weakened areas that will only get brighter with bleach, making the unevenness more apparent.
You want to get the most of your investment in ortho. There are just so many reasons just to ask your dentist in person, so he can evaluate her clinically. He/she can recommended reputable, safe, effective at-home whitening kits- not those TV gimmicks.
Good luck!
