Baking soda doesn’t really “whiten” teeth. It will however remove superficial stain (coffee, tea, smoking etc.). To get the actual whitening effect, you will have to use some sort of peroxide derivitive. Carbamide peroxide is the bleaching agent that dental offices use. It is like a cousin to hydrogen peroxide. Look at the ingredients in any whitening agent. If it has a peroxide derivitive in it it will bleach the teeth. Any abrasive agent will only scrub off the superficial stain. Hope that helps.
