How Can You Prevent Getting White Spots On Your Teeth With Braces?

February 10th, 2010

I went to the dentist today and she said I was getting plaque around my brackets. She told about how I could get white spots and said that I already might have one or two. How can I make sure that they aren’t there in 3 1/2 years when I get them taken off? Also, how can I prevent new ones from forming?????? I can’t have white spots!!!!!!!

Brush right after meals and make sure you are cleaning well around each and every bracket. Don’t allow food to build up around the brackets as that will cause plaque which will cause white spots. Also, don’t eat sticky foods (jelly beans, gum, starburst, etc.) as this can stick around your brackets and cause plaque build up.

Brush your teeth twice every day: once in the morning after breakfast, and once right before you go to bed. I did this when I had braces every day, and I had no spots on my teeth…and I had my braces on for almost 2 years.
AND if you eat a lot of junk food/pop, just rinse your mouth with water after.
If there are already spots on your teeth, then brushing will fix that once you get the braces off, but Whitestrips will fix it even more. =)
But you must continue to brush your teeth.

    ok, i’m speaking from experiance
go to walmart, go to the dental section, and you look for this little plastic thing and at the end, it looks like pipe cleaner. buy it. go home and 2x a day, go in between your brackets with the pipe cleaner side, dont use pipe cleaner. also, brush really hard and at least 2x a day. and use lots of mouthwash at least 2-3x a day. do that every single day and you should be in shape. also, dont eat sticky stuff.

Maybe invest in an electric toothbrush they give a good clean that can prevent white spots. But honestly I had braces I brushed my teeth twice a day and i had no white spots.

Brush your teeth three times a day. Avoid a lot of dark soda, like Pepsi, Coke, and Dr. Pepper. Do what your dentist says.
